Puerto Vallarta Here I Come!
Why Puerto Vallarta?
I’m told Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful city full of beaches, shops, and amazing food. I was able to score an incredible deal on a resort for 7 days, so figured why not hop across the border and check it out! I expect to enjoy street tacos, my feet in the sand, and all the comforts of home.
Buganvilias Resort Vacation Club
First of all, this trip is made possible thanks to a great deal thru RCI. If you’ve read some of my thoughts on timeshares, you’ll know that I own a couple of timeshare resorts in Orlando, Florida. I trade these weeks in for points in RCI. This entitles me to use those points at resorts around the globe. So last weekend I was looking and came across a 1 Bedroom Suite at Buganvilias Resort Vacation Club for just 7,500 points. To put that in perspective, one of my resorts in Florida gives me 75,000 points every other year. So for a $299 exchange fee and 1/10th of my points, I not have 7 days in Puerto Vallarta.

Flights to Puerto Vallarta
If there is something I’m disappointed in, it was the flight schedules. I had a great plan when I started this search. I saw there were flights from DFW to PVR on Frontier and they were dirt cheap. They leave on Saturday morning and are non-stop. However, after deciding to book, the flight from DFW to PVR disappeared. The return flight was still there. It looked like it might be $160 Round Trip. If you want to upgrade to business class and get bags and premium seats, then it’s $320 total. That’s a good price in my book. However, without the cheap flight available on Saturday morning, I opted to use my United MileagePlus points to cover the airfare. So for about 26k points and $40 in fees, I’ll from Tulsa to Denver and then to Puerto Vallarta. I have the option of returning Wednesday afternoon if I need to… or stay and return Saturday afternoon.
Plans while I’m there?
For now, my plans are all about food. I plan to enjoy street tacos and Mexican cokes. For those that know me, I don’t drink… unless it’s Cherry Coke, Sprite, or Mexican Coke. And in the land of Mexico… that should be easy to find all that I want. Also, the exchange rate looks to be 18.5 pescos per dollar. So when a street taco is 22 pescos and a Mexican Coke 22-25 pescos… you’re looking at a tasty treat for under $2.50. We have to be careful to make sure I don’t eat 100 tacos a day because at that price, they are certainly affordable. Also, the resort has a buffet that looks to be about 350 pescos… so around $20 for all you can eat.
